Apr. 2023 Volume 2 Issue 3

Welcome to zCloak Network’s Monthly Update for April. During the past month, the zCloak team introduced some product and tech updates, attended the HK Web3 Festival, and participated in some other events. This month’s newsletter covers updates on our core progress in product development and other events worth mentioning. Let’s have a quick look at what we built in April. FYI, this series of monthly newsletters are dedicated to keeping our community members up to date, so please follow us and stay tuned for more information!

Products and Technology

PWA zkID Wallet

Following zCloak’s browser extension zkID Wallet, the zCloak team developed a mobile version of the product in the form of a Progressive Web App (PWA). Users can directly add the app to their phones’ homescreens and use it like any regular application. In addition to all functions provided in the browser extension wallet, the PWA wallet also introduces QR codes scanning and exporting for mobile use purposes. You are welcome to test it out at https://wallet.zkid.app/ and explore your own mobile zkID.

Valid Name ready for onboarding entities

At the end of April, zCloak’s domain name system Valid Name (.vid) is officially open to the public. Unlike existing name services, where most domain names are on the market for random purchases and resales, Valid Name reserves only the name corresponding to the entity’s registered trademark/domain name for the entity, who will then be able to use this Valid Name to represent the entity DID. And as mentioned before, early bird boarding to the platform can enjoy exclusive benefits such as a free Valid Name.

Set Key/Role function online

On the Valid ID platform, entities who are already onboard can use the Set Key/Set Role to add any addresses or DIDs affiliated with the entity.

The Set Role function stands for adding a member of an organization to the entity’s Valid ID profile. The entity’s Rootkey can give a name to each member of the organization, add the member’s Rootkey, and add a text description. You can refer to the current settings of zCloak: https://valid3.id/#/zcloak/profile. Each organization member will automatically receive a second-level domain name with the organization’s valid name as a suffix. For example: jacky.zcloak.vid.

The Set Key section can add any on-chain address of the organization, such as payment address, project smart contract address, or published NFT address. Simply put, the function of Key is to associate on-chain assets and contracts with the organization’s identity. Each organization’s key will also automatically receive a second-level domain name with the organization’s valid name as a suffix. For example, zCloak’s payment address can be: payment.zcloak.vid.

The long term vision of the Valid ID platform is to help mirror the real-world structure of an organization in the Web3 world.

Valid Sign verification in multiple social network platforms

The signature from Valid Sign can now be pasted and verified in Telegram, Discord and WeChat, opening the door for Web3 app in billion-user social networks. Combined with Valid Name, the Valid Sign product now gives much clearer indication on the identity of the signer.

Events

HK Web3 Festival

From April 12 to April 15, The “2023 Hong Kong Web3 Festival”, co-organized by Wanxiang Blockchain Lab and HashKey and hosted by W3ME, was officially held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. As one of the exhibitors of this event, zCloak Network presented at our booth with some latest progress in product and technology.

During the 4-day exhibition, zCloak issued unique proof-of-attendence cards to visitors who stopped by our booth, using our PWA zkID Wallet. The card will be used for subsequent events when they can be seamlessly transformed into SBT and NFT in Ethereum.

Dr. Xiao Zhang, founder of zCloak Network, participated in multiple panels and speeches during the Web3 festival in HK. He introduced the zCloak vision and products in detail to hundreds of audiences and get connected to HK local universities, government agencies and industry.

The zCloak team also actively interacted with various projects in the global Web3 industry, seeking potential collaboration possibilities.

Valid ID Onboarding Campaign

On April 25, zCloak organized a Twitter campaign. More than 20 entities participated and posted related tweets. The campaign aimed to expand the exposure of Valid ID platform to public view, and invite more projects and entities to join us in building a Web of Trust in the Web3 space.

Partnership

zCloak and dForce

On April 28, both sides announced the partnership on Twitter. zCloak Network will work with dForce to integrate privacy-preserving identity service with DeFi. The partnership will focus on the use of real-world identity in accessing DeFi services while preserving user privacy.

On the DeFi side, greater adoption of DID platforms may open up several new opportunities for money markets: For example, dForce could develop on-chain solutions already available in Traditional Finance, such as a required collateral and an interest rate based on a user’s personal credit reputation.

AMAs

MataBlox: Decentralized Identity and Identity Management

On April 5, MataBlox organized an AMA with the topic “Decentralized Identity and Identity Management”, representatives from Getaverse, Vestige Studio, zCloak Network, and Metablox presented as speakers.

At the very beginning, Annabella, the CMO of zCloak Network, briefly introduced what zCloak is building, and its vision — — to deliver the Web3 dream of self-sovereignty. Later, Annabella shared some ideas on the impact of decentralization on the network. She mentioned that decentralized identity solutions will be helpful to solve lots of complicated real-life issues and make people’s lives more convenient. Moreover, she also mentioned that the core concept of decentralized identity lies in giving back full control of users’ identity data information. Finally, during the Q&A part, Annabella explained how zCloak’s identity solution solves the problem of “who is who” in the Web3 world.

zCloak Network: Web3 Security Issues

On April 27, zCloak organized an AMA on the topic of Web3’s new solutions to security issues, representatives from Legal DAO, DATT, zCloak Network, and SharkTeam presented as speakers.

During the panel, w3tester, the founder of zCloak shared his thoughts about the impact of Web3’s security issues on the zk industry, mentioning that a certain lack of basic identity infrastructure is the main reason for security issues. In addition, he also provided a future solution for the issue — — Valid ID, which can answer the question of “who is who” in the Web3 world. Moreover, the Valid sign function can help with anti-fraud announcements and news releases. Other speakers also shared and discussed their ideas from the point of security protection and web3 regulation.
